My Mary Kay Career Thus Far

I was 17 when I started with Mary Kay and was in my second last year of high school. I had faint dreams of becoming a director… one day when I was married and a mum. The Mary Kay career path offers women such a unique opportunity to stay at home with their babies whilst still earning an executive income and that was something I was looking forward to… in the very VERY distant future. But I was quite content for then, just having fun as a consultant and enjoying all the perks Mary Kay has to offer it’s consultants; free products, friends and lots of FUN! Little did I know that the perks of being a DIRECTOR were even more out of this world!!!

Going into DIQ at 20 years of age, my ‘distant dream’ became fast tracked. My goals had changed and I wanted to qualify as a director at 21 years of age, and that is exactly what I did. In October of 2013 my director, Jennifer Ratcliffe, came back from a Top Directors Trip to South Africa and said that she saw a lot of potential in me to become a director, she poured belief and value into me which helped me to begin to imagine the benefits of becoming a director whilst still at university instead of down the track. It took me a couple of days to wrap my head around it but once I did, I committed to making it happen… that’s not to say I wasn’t scared!!! I often tell my girls the week before I went into DIQ, which subsequently was the holiday week between Christmas and new years, I told my boyfriend (now fiancé) that I couldn’t see him because I had to stock up on sleep to ‘get me through the upcoming 4 months of DIQ’. The whole week I spent planning, dreaming, thinking, strategising, to the point that once January 1st hit and I officially went into DIQ I felt a tremendous sense of relief!!!! The hardest part is always the anticipation and lead up to starting something. Once you commit and get started you are so busy chipping away at your goal that it becomes a whole lot easier, in fact I ended up loving DIQ!

We brought in our minimum requirement of new team members within the first two months and ended up achieving almost $15 000 over the minimum sales requirement for the period. I had a blast. Since becoming a director, I have really come to realise the benefits and reap the rewards of having my own mobile beauty business with such a dynamic, generous and successful company. Being 21 and managing a unit of 50 busy beauty consultants within the Ratpack Future Area continues to be a life-changing, empowering experience. Mary Kay gave me a chance to travel to Asia in 2014 and although I have travelled a lot in my life I had never been to Asia and had always wanted to. Earning my all expenses paid international trip to China with Mary Kay in 2014 was phenomenal. I enjoyed 5 nights in absolute luxury and got to experience an entirely different culture and an eye-opening world. Each month since becoming a director with Mary Kay my income has been in the thousands, not bad for a uni student income!!! I enjoy a lifestyle with Mary Kay that most uni students only dream of and I am so thankful for the opportunity the company has given me to truly earn a full time income doing part time hours.
